How We Handcraft Our Radiator Cabinets

All of our radiator cabinets are individually handcrafted to produce an unique piece of furniture for your home.

We use a variety of different materials to produce the end product.

All of the work involved in creating your made to measure radiator cabinet is done in our workshop in Omeath , County Louth. This includes the spraying and finishing of the final product. We produce individual cabinets which are designed and handcrafted for the discerning  customer , who values quality above all else.

The main cabinet is made from Finsa Hidrofugo moisture resistant mdf board.
This is the best material to construct a radiator cover from due to it’s very low moisture content and homogeneous structure, which remains stable.

All materials expand and contract when exposed to heat, this is why we do not use solid wood as our main structural material.

Solid wood contents heartwood and sapwood which tend to have different moisture contents and can be prone to warping and splitting.
We do use solid wood for our turnings and heavier plinth detail.

Our front panels can be either cut from a single sheet with no joints, or it can be jointed. This process is done using a Festool Domino which produces a mortise in each piece of wood. This is jointed with a floating tenon and pva glue, producing a very strong joint.

The Column on the medium fluted column design is produced in the same way. This gives you a seamless finish and is superior in strength.

When it comes to applying the finish to your cabinet , we use an air assisted airless spray gun. Firstly we applying two coat of Morrell’s wood primer and give a sound surface to apply the topcoats. All cabinets are carefully sanded between coats. A further two coat of morrell’s topcoat is then applied to produce a beautifully finished radiator cover.
All of spraying is done in-house at Loughview Furnishings allowing us to provide you with a colour matching service, Please contact us for further details.
The rad cover is finished on the inside as well and no surface it left unfinished. This is important as it counter balances the board and prevents any problems arising.

Our Grilles range from HDF which is a superior material especially in thinner materials. We have a range of aluminium grilles in both a silver and gold finishes.
We also provide handmade solid brass grilles in a regency style. They are made from 4mm brass bar and can have rosettes at each or alternate intersections.
All of our grilles have between 40 to 45 % open area to provide increased air circulation.

If you would like a more cost effective solution for your radiator cover, we can also provide you with a supply only option. Allowing you to supply your own measurements and fit the cabinet yourself.
Whilst we pride ourselves on the quality of our finish, we can give you the option of purchasing the cabinet in the raw. This allows you to finish the cover your way and stamp your individuality on your radiator cover.
